Latino Diamante Awards

Since 1996, the Latino Diamante Awards have been Diamante’s signature event. The award show and live performances are presented each year to honor individuals or organizations making significant contributions to the Latino/Hispanic communities of North Carolina and celebrate the diversity within those communities.

Awards are presented in:

  • ART & CULTURE (Arte y Cultura) Recognizes significant contributions to the visual, literary, cultural or performing arts, media, communications, or to an organization that promotes artists, or art programs in the Hispanic community
  • BUSINESS (Empresa) Recognizes excellence in the business and/or corporate community. The nominee may be retired, self-employed, or otherwise working in the business field.
  • COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT (Trabajo en la Comunidad) Recognizes significant contributions made to the Hispanic community through the devotion of time and energy, to improve the quality of life of Hispanic/Latinos in North Carolina.
  • EDUCATION (Educación) Recognizes outstanding contributions in education through teaching, administration, research, and/or participation in profes­sional education associations.
  • HEALTH & SCIENCE (Salud y Ciencia) Recognizes individual contributions and achievements in the field of health and science. The nominee may have promoted these fields through individual performance, teaching, research, organizing programs, or assisting others.
  • LATINO ADVOCATE (Defensor de los Latinos) Recognizes significant contributions made by an elected or appointed civic leader or by a community organization to improve the quality of life of Hispanic/Latinos in North Carolina.
  • JAIME LEON YOUTH AWARD (Logro Juvenil)A financial award to graduating high school seniors by recognizing contributions to the community, leadership qualities, and the achievements of Hispanic-Latino youth in North Carolina.
  • LIZETTE CRUZ WATKO “Lifetime Achievement” AWARD (Logro de Por Vida) Recognizes contributions made by an individual for more than 20 years to the Hispanic community through the devotion of time and energy, intending to improve the quality of life of Hispanics in North Carolina.
